Reduced Product Cost & Improved Lead Times

RSP has helped thousands of customers reduce product costs while offering them best-in-industry lead times. We have invested in automation and robotics to help drive down costs to save our customers money and improve quality. As a company, we maintain sufficient facilities and equipment that allow us to grow and manage capacity to keep consistent short lead times and still have the flexibility to respond to urgent requests.

Better Products

RSP applies the same high standards and quality to every plastic injection molding project we undertake. It starts with our senior engineering team that together have over 100 years of plastic molding experience. It continues with our investments in new facilities and equipment. Our team is dedicated to quality and has achieved ISO13485 certifications for medical-grade molding. We are also FDA registered for manufacturing medical devices. Even if your project is not medical in nature, you can rest assured the controls and processes are in place to ensure success and quality. Internally, we use GBT 14486-2008 molding tolerances and also work with clients on critical measurements.

A few other things to note:

RSP offers affordable quick-turn prototypes. We create prototypes using machined blocks of plastic for the highest quality and strength. RSP also has 3D printing available for some sizes and shapes.
If you need to bridge the gap between prototyping and production, we offer several options. Our customers can select from aluminum or softer steel tools, which allow for lower cost tooling and an easier and quicker turnaround. Softer steel and aluminum molds have a limited life of 5,000–50,000 pieces depending on the design.
Our mold transfer program makes it simple for you to seamlessly transfer your tools to us. After an initial assessment, we will be able to determine whether there is a need for additional equipment or safety stock. Everything will be put in writing to protect the interests of all parties.
Because we work with custom projects across many, many industries, we cannot guarantee a standard lead time. When you request a quote, we’ll provide an estimated lead time for your project. Typically, our lead times are 4–6 weeks for standard tooling depending on the complexity of the tool. We are generally faster than others in the industry.
This process uses the power of sonic waves to melt two plastic parts together to create a bond. Alternatively a hand dispenser or automated robot is used to glue two parts together.
Starting with an oversized part design, we meet exacting tolerances by using high-speed abrasive tools to remove plastic.
Our engineers consider all aspects and variables when designing tooling, but a standard practice is to create an even flow length from the tip of the sprue (injection point) to the end of each cavity with symmetrical cross sections.
Molded-in inserts require a pin in the mold core that retains the insert during the molding cycle. RSP has five-axis robots to perfectly place the inserts. With this process, the resin completely encapsulates the insert, which typically provides the best results and is done in a single step.
Using standard processes and overhead hoists allows us to save costs by switching over machines quickly.
These families of thermoplastics, with higher performance characteristics, are considered engineering thermoplastics. They include polyamides (PA 6, PA66), polyesters, (PET, PBT), polycarbonate (PC) and polyacetals (POM).
Some projects may require in-mold decoration (IMD) to include an image or coating on a plastic surface. This process involves printing a high-quality image on a heat-resistant plastic film that will hold up to the stress of in-molding. The printed film is inserted into the open plastic injection mold and held in place via vacuum ports or electrostatic charge while the mold is closed. Once closed, plastic resin is injected into the mold, encapsulating the label to the finished part. Combining the decoration process with the molding process adds durability; decreases manufacturing costs by eliminating post-molding labeling, handling and storage; and also enables design flexibility. IMD allows for a wide range of colors, effects, textures and graphic options and can replicate stainless steel, wood grain and carbon fiber. IMD is commonly used on washers and dryers because of its affordability and durability.

How Much Are Plastic Injection Services?

At RSP, we provide plastic injection molding solutions that fit a wide range of budgets—from small single-cavity prototypes to complex multi-cavity production tools.

Typical Mold Costs:

  • Simple, small molds: $1,000 – $6,000
  • Standard production molds: $7,000 – $9,000 (average)
  • Large or complex molds: $25,000 – $100,000+

Pricing depends on several key factors, including:

  • Part size and geometry
  • Number of cavities
  • Material selection
  • Expected production volume
  • Surface finish and tolerances

We strive to keep costs predictable and transparent. Smaller projects can often move from design to production for under $4,500, while high-complexity programs may require investments upward of $100,000 depending on tooling and engineering scope.

Our goal is to deliver maximum value with minimal friction. That’s why we frequently bundle engineering and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) services into your tooling package—and in many cases, we provide them at no extra cost.

What to Expect: From Quote to Production

Here’s how we ensure a seamless, cost-effective process:

  1. Request a Quote

Share your project details with an RSP team member for a fast, accurate estimate.

  2. Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Review

Our engineering team evaluates your part for moldability and performance, suggesting enhancements to reduce cost and improve quality.

Environmental & Biodegradable Material Options

We take pride in our socially responsible and environmentally friendly facilities in the US and overseas. Our state-of-the-art plastic injection molding and assembly facility in Asia provides affordable tooling and molding while adhering to the United States’ manufacturing practices and quality standards. At RSP, we pride ourselves in doing our part while practicing sustainable manufacturing and utilizing eco-friendlier manufacturing materials.

Ocean Plastic

RSP is part of a growing group of manufacturers that have officially joined Oceanworks® and make products from ocean plastic. We supply and manufacture with ocean plastic for several companies that produce consumer products and reusable packaging solutions. These companies are proud to be part of the solution to create a more sustainable environment while meeting an ever-increasing demand for responsibly made products. Contact us today to see whether ocean plastic is a good fit for your next product.

Biocomposite

RSP is using eco-friendlier plastics to reduce environmental impact in the molding industry. RSP biocomposite plastics include hemp, rice, flax or cotton fibers added to petroleum-based plastic. This reduces the amount of plastic that is used, which in turn reduces pollution.

Hemp is a leading-choice fiber, as some of the largest car manufacturers are integrating it into their production. Beyond reduced environmental impact, there is good reason for choosing natural fibers: performance. Hemp-infused plastic, for example, can be up to 5 times stiffer and 2.5 times stronger than polypropylene (PP).
